Everything You Need To Know About A Dental Denture

A dental denture is a replacement for a missing tooth or the teeth as a whole. The most significant advantage of using a denture is that you can easily take it out and put it back into the mouth as and when required. Also, you will never feel any kind of irritation or discomfort while using it in your daily life.

The way of working of a denture is also very simple and you will face no hassle in maintaining and using it. The flesh-coloured acrylic base remains attached to the gums and provides a strong framework to the denture. The upper portion of the base covers the palate, while the lower portion is shaped like a horseshoe for providing enough room to the tongue.

Dentures in most cases are custom made in a dental laboratory by taking impressions of the mouth. But, it is the dentist who takes the final call about the type of denture best suited for you.

Here is a complete list of three major types of dentures used by the  dentists.

  1. Conventional Denture – As the name suggests, a conventional denture is the most frequently used dental denture. According to the dentists, this type of denture is specifically made for the patient’s mouth cavity after the removal of the affected tooth or the entire set of teeth. After the operation, the doctor allows the gum to heal. Once the gums are healed, the doctor casts a mould over the patient’s oral cavity. The next step involves creating the denture and fitting it into the patient’s mouth.

  2. Immediate Full Denture – An immediate full denture is inserted immediately after the removing the remaining teeth. As per the experts, this method is particularly useful for aged patients who are in need of immediate attention. The most significant advantage of using this type of denture is that you will never have to part ways with your teeth. The dentist records the model and measurements of your jaw during your prior visitsand keeps it ready. They place the dental denture soon after removing the damaged tooth or the complete set.

  3. Partial Denture – A partial dental denture is a boon of modern medical science. One of the many advantages of a partial denture is that it rests on a metal framework, which remains attached to the natural teeth. The best thing is that it provides a superb grip and framework to the teeth.Sometimes, the crowns placed on your natural teeth act as anchors for the partial denture. And the most exciting part is, this type of dentures offer a removable alternative to the bridges. Also, they are extremely easy to use and maintain.
