As an Invisalign® dentist in Fort Worth, we treat a lot of adults that want to have straighter teeth but are concerned about how braces might look. We get it – if you are a busy professional with an image to maintain, or someone on the dating scene, you may not want to wear traditional metal braces. Though they are incredibly effective, they also stand out like a sore thumb and can be inconvenient. As such, traditional braces simply aren’t for everyone. We understand and offer clear aligners as an alternative.
With this procedure, all you need to do is wear your aligners for 22 hours a day in order to have your teeth move from crooked to straight. To get started, schedule an appointment so that we can make an impression of your teeth to send to the dental lab. There, they will create an entire series of aligners that starts with the position your teeth are in now, going all the way until they are perfectly straight. Each aligner is worn for around two weeks before you simply replace it with the next one in the series. As long as you keep your aligner clean by rinsing it out, it should remain clear during these two weeks and be completely unnoticeable.
The key to remember is that while you can take out your aligners, you must put them back in. You can remove them while you eat which makes it very easy to straighten your teeth. There are no food restrictions as long as you brush after eating. This makes it possible to have a romantic dinner, schedule a lunch meeting with a client or head to your favorite burger joint. When wearing metal braces with brackets and wires, this simply isn’t a possibility. In fact, many people stop eating their favorite foods because of how the food gets stuck in between the brackets and wires – risks that are eliminated with Invisalign. Simultaneously, it is easier to clean your teeth when wearing Invisalign® because all you have to do is take out the aligner and brush and floss like normal. This is compared with using special flossing tools to clean your braces. As an Invisalign® dentist in Fort Worth, we find that this is a major benefit for our patients.
Our adult patients that play sports also find that it is easier to take out their aligner when playing a game so that they can continue to wear a mouth guard or not worry about their mouth bleeding if getting hit. These basic everyday life events are either made more complicated by braces or easier with Invisalign®. The key is to consider what your lifestyle is like and whether or not you have the time to make the necessary adjustments. If you don’t, then braces are not a good option for you as adjustments are demanded on a daily basis. To find out if you are a good candidate for straightening teeth with aligners, give us a call. As an Invisalign® dentist in Fort Worth, we will be happy to examine your teeth and discuss a treatment plan.
