Overview Of TMJ

The temporomadibular joint (TMJ) is the joint connecting jawbone to the skull. It is placed in the front of the ear on the either side of the head. Any discomfort can cause severe pain.

Sometimes the pain goes away without treatment, but if it persist then certain options needs to be adopted.

Pain relievers and anti inflammatory– Non- steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB) are used to treat the pain.

Muscle relaxants– This is used for several months to heal the pain who are suffering from TMJ disorder.

Experts strongly recommend for conservative and reversible treatment.

Conservative treatment is the way you stay conscious so that the pain does not get worse.

Avoiding extreme jaw movements, relaxing and reducing stress.
Eating soft foods.
Applying ice packs.
Practicing stretching and relaxing exercise that may reduce the stiffness in your jaw.

Other types of treatment like surgery can be an effective for treating TMJ disorder. Not always you need surgery but if it becomes necessary then doctor will prescribe you.

I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Nguyen today! From the moment I walked in, the entire team, especially Dr. Nguyen and Haley, made me feel comfortable and at ease. I’ve always had a bit of anxiety when it comes to dental appointments, but their calm and reassuring demeanor really helped ease my nerves. I came in to get some cavities filled because I started noticing some discomfort when my tongue brushed against them, and I was dreading the procedure. However, Dr. Nguyen was incredibly gentle and thorough, explaining each step of the process in a way that made me feel completely at ease. Haley was also amazing and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire appointment. What I thought would be a scary and stressful experience turned out to be much smoother and more pleasant than I ever imagined! Claudia made every effort to assist me with all of the work that I needed within my budget and I appreciate her professionalism. The staff is extremely friendly all while making me feel comfortable during procedures. Doctor Iqbal was very knowledgeable and finished my dental work quickly and efficiently. Of course I can’t forget about Lana who did a wonderful job with my cleaning and assisting me with my next appointment. I can’t recommend affordable dentist enough!!

Dr Iqbal was kind and gave good advice regarding care of my new crown and implant. I had to come back a few times to get the fit and color right, and without complaint he made sure my crown fit and was comfortable. All of his assistants have been kind and thorough as well.
