What to Expect During a Root Canal Procedure

During a root canal treatment, our dentist will first administer a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort and make the procedure painless. Once the area is numb, the dentist will create an opening in the tooth to access the infected root. The canal is then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, with medication applied to eliminate any remaining infection.

After cleaning, the dentist will fill the canal with Gutta-Percha, a rubber-like material approved by the FDA for dental use.

The area is then packed with small cotton pellets and sealed with a temporary crown. This temporary crown will stay in place for 2 to 3 weeks to allow the tooth to heal, during which time a custom permanent crown will be made for you.

After the healing period, the permanent crown will be securely cemented onto the remaining tooth structure.
