What to Expect During a Root Canal Procedure

When you undergo a root canal treatment, our dentist will start by administering a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort and make the procedure pain-free. Once the area is numb, the dentist will access the tooth's canal by drilling into it, allowing them to reach the infected root. The canal is then meticulously cleaned and disinfected, with medication applied to eliminate any remaining infection.

Following the cleaning process, the dentist will fill the canal with Gutta-Percha, a rubber-like material approved by the FDA for dental use.

After filling the canal, the area is packed with small cotton pellets and sealed with a temporary crown. This temporary crown will remain in place for 2 to 3 weeks to allow the tooth to heal, during which time a custom permanent crown will be made for you.

Once the healing period is complete, the permanent crown will be firmly cemented onto the remaining tooth structure.

Typically, most root canal treatments involve two appointments: one for the canal procedure and another for the crown placement. However, the duration of the canal procedure may vary depending on the condition and structure of the tooth.
